After unsuccessfully installing Aptana (for RadRails) via Software Updates -> Find and Install… (failure error message), I manually copied the files provided by Aptana into the features and plugins directories and restarted MyEclipse. I got more error messages, so I manually removed those files before restarting again. Unfortunately, I now get the following error message the first time I go to Software Updates -> Find and Install…:

Requested operation cannot be performed because it would invalidate the current configuration. […] Platform configuration has been modified outside this program. A restart is recommended.

and this one all subsequent times, before restarting the IDE:

Another install/update job is in progress. Please cancel it and then re-launch this action.

    Thanks for your help.

Have you tried restarting MyEclipse using -clean ?

Yes, I have several times. I even tried rebooting my PC (a reflex, I guess…).

I think the installation has got corrupted while copy pasting the files manually. Can you try reinstalling MyEclispe to a brand new location and test if the errors go away.

I had tried restarting the IDE with the “-clean” option from the command line, and that had failed. But the link you provided suggests adding that option in the eclipse.ini file, and that solved my problem. I was then able to install Aptana + RadRails plugins. I still don’t know why this failed in the first place… but I don’t care anymore!

    Thank you for your help.
