    Hi,

I just installed MyEclipse 10 and after starting it a few times I get the message that it need to start with other memory configuration settings as it has only 5% of the 84MB survival Memory available (Sorry, can’t remember the exact popup description, but it’s a famous one).

However, it does propose the following settings:
    —-
    -vmargs
    -Xmx768m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=384m
    -XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=64m
    —-

While I have the following in my ini:
    —-
    -vmargs
    -Xms1024m
    -Xmx1512m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
    -XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=124m
    -Dosgi.nls.warnings=ignore
    —-

Which is more then it’s proposal :(…
So what do I need to change ?
My machine: Windows 7 on 64 bit, quad core with 8GB Ram.

    Ed,

Sorry to hear you are running into this issue. Could you try changing the vmargs argument as recommended and give it a shot. I shall escalate your issue to dev team members. They would get back to you on this. To help with our investigation, please provide below information –
    1. Open MyEclipse IDE, from menu options click on MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details and copy and paste the same here
    2. How did you install ME 10? Meaning using – all-in-one installer / pulse / archived update site on top of eclipse classic?
    3. Could you elaborate the steps taken by you which results in the heap memory configuration issue to help us reproduce the same at our end
    4. Please attach your .log file located at [your workspace dir]/.metadata/.log

As all-in-one installer with only 25% of the modules installed, as 64bit version and no visual design stuff.

    3)
I happened when I was re-installing the plugin’s and started up in the MyEclipse COnfiguration Center.

BTW: just after installation I performed a -clean as explained in this forum as I am using the workspace created with MyEcllipse 9.0

    4)
I have included two log files as I noticed that they are both of 2day.

    Hope this helps.
I noticed some dirty exceptions in the log file. Please let me know if these are important and if/what I can do about these?

I just received another time the popup warning with these settings:
    —-
    -vmargs
    -Xmx768m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=384m
    -XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=64m
    —-

When I changed the jre compiler warning “Method can be static” from ignore to warning (new feature of Eclipse) such that a complete new rebuild occurred of all my projects. During this rebuild the popup came along.

I have changed my settings to these ones now.

    Ed,

Thanks for the log files. I wouldn’t worry about errors in the log unless the functionality of the workbench is affected.

The messages about suggested memory settings is hard-coded, so it doesn’t check the memory settings you used at startup. If your settings are higher than the recommended settings that should be fine.

I couldn’t replicate the problem on Windows 7. You might want to show the heap status to keep an eye on the heap space being used. This is available from MyEclipse->Utilities->Show Heap Status. That will also give you a quick way of requesting a garbage collection, by clicking the rubbish bin icon.

Are you doing a lot of work in the workbench at the time? Perhaps with many file editors open, a few perspectives, started servers, and so on? The MyEclipse Configuration Center does take a lot of memory so it might be best to close a few other things down (like editors and perspectives) before doing a lot of work in the Configuration Center.

    Hi,

In away I expected your answer. But the problems concerning memories are exactly the same some months ago with the older Eclipse and with my dual core 4GB ram. So upgrading hardware appearantly makes no difference, weird.

Anyway, in the meantime I have a showstopper problem. Please help me with this one:
The Outline view (Java development) don’t sync with the editor window once Eclipse has lost focus.
    Imagine the following scenario:
I have two files open (see screenshots) and the outline view correctly shows my editor class. I go to my outlook, browser, or other program, and go back to eclipse. The Outline is empty (see screenshots). When I switch to the other class, it shows the Outline of that class, but when I go back to the previous editor class, it doesn’t change the outline view and keep showing the older outline (see screenshots).

This is for me a showstopper, so till this is solved, I will look for MyEclispe 9 and install that again. You can imagine that currently I can’t work!
I have tried a couple of things: I have created a new workspace and exported and imported all my preferences.
As such, that log file no contains any error, see the attached log file.

I hope to hear from you asap,
    Ed

I found out that it’s not a MyEclipse issue as it also occurs in MyEclipse 9.1 and not anymore after I uninstalled my nVidia driver :(..
Appearantly I have to install a correct nvidia driver (I replaced my GPU recently as the old one was broken).

    🙁
