Kalani BrightMemberI’m a bit disappointed after all the eclipse downloads and installs IÊ»ve been doing lately. I bought the MyEclipse Spring version. I thought by using my key I would already have it.
This is after several installs trying to get things working properly. Things keep going wrong:
Install #1: Downloaded Cocoa Version of Eclipse…not compatible with FlashBuilder
Install #2: Downloaded Java EE version of Eclipse…not compatible with MyEclipse
Install #3: Downloaded Generic Carbon version of Eclipse….too new. Either wasnÊ»t compatible with FlashBuilder, MyEclipse, or both (forgot)
Install #4: Downloaded Older Generic Carbon version of Eclipse…then installed MyEclipse, Java EE stuff, and FlashBuilder (Flex). This is what IÊ»ve been running now diving into Spring, finding that Spring is missing.now..why isnÊ»t the spring stuff there?…Doh..now its downloading a whole new copy of eclipse!…Ok, whats this workbench thing…maybe I can add it? “The MyEclipse Dashboard is only available from a full version of My Eclipse”. Downoading Dashboard…oh no another copy of eclipse.
Can someone please create help me get MyEclipse for Spring running on Mac 10.6 with FlashBuilder?
Canʻt I just install the MyEclipse for Spring via an update site? Do I do that through the dashboard? Whats the dashboard; whatʻs its for? Whats the easiest/best way to update my copy.
Mac OSX 10.6.6
Eclipse Galileo – Eclipse sdk 3.5.2
MyEclipse 8.6.1
Flash Builder 4.0.1 Standard Eclipse PluginThen tried installing MyEclipse for Spring and it downloaded Eclipse again and put it in a folder. Can I copy stuff from there to the other eclipse direcotry?
Confused. Spent a long time making sure everything I wanted was compatible now Iʻm stuck trying to get the MyEclipse for Spring features on the Eclipse copy.
Thanks for the help.

Kalani BrightMemberI just figured out after trying to move stuff over from the Pulse MyEclipse for Spring Install that it wasnʻt going to work at all.
Then after poking around opening the MyEclipseForSpring.app and poking in the ini file realized that MyEclipse for Spring is based on Carbon; or at least I think so based on the word carbon inside the .ini file.Despite painful number of installs Iʻm downloading the MyEclipse for Spring IDE and will post if the FlashBuilder doesnʻt work.
It probably will.I would have really appreciated the capability to upgrade via an update site or other means.
Still like the IDE. Itʻs making it easier on me learning Java & Spring and integrating with my Flex/Flash apps.I have a few requests just for everyone else:
– Provide a Mac OSX Carbon Download for MyEclipse
– Make it VERY CLEAR to users to download the MyEclipse for Spring …. IÊ»m a fast clicker and didnÊ»t realize there was two different versions. I thought the differences in versions were accessible within MyEclipse. Maybe they are for other users one that have access to the dashboard because they used the MyEclipse installer versus the a standard Eclipse install w/a MyEclipse features/plugins upgrade via Update site.
– Make mention on the MyEclipse for Spring that MyEclipse is FlashBuilder compatible and based on Carbon. With all the previous problems IÊ»ve had with Cocoa/Carbon differences I didnÊ»t trust that it was FlashBuilder compatible until I started peeking inside. Its a huge download…some people may try the other route via Eclipse installs/upgrades to be on the safe side then to realize theyÊ»re not on the safe side.Anyway, look forward to using the tools…they look great!

Kalani BrightMemberUrghh..didnÊ»t work…After installing MyEclipse for Spring then installing FlashBuilder…then starting MyEclipse there is an Error and MyEclipse wonÊ»t start.
I didnʻt read it but basically now it canʻt find things
I kept the defaults for MyEclipse install and it installed to : /Library/Genuitec/MyEclipse For Spring 8.6
When asked for install Directory I gave it the same..
When installing it I get an error. FlashBuilder probably modified something and now MyEclipse for Spring wont work/start.
It created a log filed I copied/renamed/attached here:

Scott AndersonParticipantKalani,
From your posts I see that you’re basically trying to constitute a MyEclipse for Spring + FlashBuilder environment but instead of using our installers it seems you keep trying to use independent Eclipse installs and trying to cobble something together from them. Due to the size and complexity of MyEclipse for Spring, this likely won’t work and is why we provide installers for all the platforms. Additionally, all of our (and Adobe’s) QA goes into what is installed by our installers. Here’s a step by step guide that explains how to install MyEclipse for Spring 8.6.1 + FlashBuilder 4
1) Download and run our Mac installer for MyEclipse for Spring 8.6.1.
2) Launch MyEclipse for Spring and make sure everything looks OK, then exit.
3) Download and run the Eclipse Plugin version of the FlashBuilder 4 Installer from Adobe. When prompted, point their installer to the top-level of your MyEclipse for Spring installation directory, as shown in the screenshot I’ve attached. Please note the screenshot shows MyEclipse 9.0, but the operation is the same with 8.6.1
4) Once Adobe’s installer completes, launch MyEclipse for Spring and you’ll also have FlashBuilder installed. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Kalani BrightMemberHi Scott,
Your solution didnʻt work. While it was true I was originally trying to get things functioning on my stand-alone Eclipse copy in the later post was when I gave up and used the Standalone MyEclipse for Spring installer and a subsequent FlashBuilder install.
The folders you are showing donʻt exist for me: There are three folders in /Library/Genuitec named Common, MyEclipse for Spring 8.6, and PulseExplorer.
Choosing Common or MyEclipse for Spring 8.6 in the FlashBuilder plugin install donʻt work. It either wont start anymore or wont have the FlashBuilder functionality.Iʻve figured it out and was able to get it running. Albeit it was not a smooth, bug-free process. Iʻve posted my installation notes here to help other people. You may have changed things in MyEclipse 9. (I was using 8.6.1)
Note Iʻve uploaded them to my dropbox temporarily which has some screenshots: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15654050/Installation_Notes.doc
They are also below.
———My OS: Mac OSX 10.6.6
Uninstalled MyEclipse For Spring by dragging the /Library/Genuitec folder to the Trash. Emptied Trash.
Uninstalled FlashBuilder Eclipse Plugin by running Uninstaller. Verified folders were gone.
Untarred latest version of MyEclipse For Spring (myeclipseforspring-8.6.1-macosx.tgz)
Ran installer (myeclipseforspring-installer.app)
Accepted License Terms
On “Customize MyEclipse for Spring install location” kept the default of “/Library/Genuitec/MyEclipse For Spring 8.6”.Clicked Install. Install completes.
Note that after install there are three folders under /Library/Genuitec:
Common (contains most of the eclipse folder, missing dropins)
MyEclipse for Spring 8.6 (contains 2 folders configuration & dropins)
Pulse ExplorerMyEclipse for Spring Starts asking for workspace. Left Default.
Exited MyEclipse for Spring
Started the latest FlashBuilder Eclipse Pluginʻs installer: FlashBuilder_4_Plugion_LS10.dmgʻs
FB4_Plugin_Mac_Installer.app.
Installer
Accepted Terms. Accepted Default install location of /Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4 Plug-in”
On select an optional Eclipse folder chose “Plug into another copy of Eclipse”The Above install steps were same for 3 attempts. Only the 3rd attempt worked. The attempts:
1) in FlashBuilder install: For select your eclipse folder I chose “/Library/Genuitec/MyEclipse for Spring 8.6”. This gave an warning about Carbon saying it wasnÊ»t a carbon folder and that FlashBuilder wasnÊ»t compatible with Cocoa; continued anyway. After install MyEclipse for Spring would not start. Uninstalled everything again.
2) in FlashBuilder install: Attempted did the same except chose “/Library/Genuitec/Common”. This gave a warning/error saying that it was not an eclipse folder because the “dropins folder was missing; continued anyway.” Post install MyEclipse for Spring did not have any FlashBuilder functionality.
3) Worked: After trying #2 Copied dropins folder from “Common” folder to “MyEclipse for Spring 8.6” folder. MyEclipse for Spring Started but gave two errors when starting:Error 1: Initializing TargetCfg has encountered a problem (java.lang.NullPointerException)
Error 2: Failure Activating Drop-ins. Pulse has automatically detected drop-ins added or removed from your configuration. (errors were with regard to flexbuilder features dependent on drop-in which were not installed or not installable)
Despite these errors MyEclipse for Spring started and to my surprise had all the FlashBuilder functionality. In subsequent starts of MyEclipse for Spring these errors were no longer shown.
Scott AndersonParticipantKalani,
First, I’m pleased you got an installation that works for you and apologize that it took so much work. In my tests, your option #1 worked fine and I didn’t encounter the “failure to start” problem that you noticed. However, in going through this for both MyEclipse 8.6 and 9.0M2 I did note a few things we could make easier going forward so I got in a couple of enhancement requests for that. Combining these two products should really be nothing more than the steps I provided. We’ll keep working on making it simpler for everyone. 🙂
wlapriseMemberWow. I’ve been wrestling with the same problem on the same system, and his instructions worked for me! Admittedly though, I did not have the Spring startup failure he experienced during his option 1, but I did see the errors and screens he listed. Then it worked. Thanks.
Scott AndersonParticipantExcellent to hear that this was helpful! As for the error screens, we’re looking into that now to see what’s up so we can make an adjustment for MyEclipse 9.0 (soon). Thanks for bringing up the issue and for the constructive feedback.
