    Hello,
We are thinking of useing windows terminal server to allow remote access to offshore development team. Would myeclipse with jboss as an applaction server scale well work for this kind of deployment. We would be developing a web applaction that is about 60 mb that uses jsp, struts and orcale db.

Each developer would have to have its own self contained development envorment as we tec such as ldap, corba etc and if developer were using the same ports they would be triping over each other.

The server would have 2gb of ram, I’m afraid I’m not shure of the proccesser speed.

Would this type of deploment be a comfortable development envirement and would it scale from 2 to 10 to 15 to 20 developers?

Any help that can be given on this would be great help,

    Thanks

I wouldn’t recommend a terminal server for development at all. The memory and processor requirements for development with MyEclipse and JBoss are really too intensive for that to be effective. IMO, you’ll end up saving more in team productivity than you spend on hardware to get each developer a reasonable development machine that they can use locally. Otherwise, I fear you’ll just have 10 to 20 developers none of which can get anything done.

    Hey Scott,
I was afraid of that. If we just had two (stop gape mesure to get started) developers working on it do you think it would work then? or would it be just like using teletext on your TV very slow and frustrating!

In your opion what kind of spec on the terminal server would we need to pull this off.

    Martin,

With only two using it, it might work. As for specs, I have no idea since we don’t run a configuration like this. Both RAM and processing capacity are highly used by the IDE + Server configuration. I can’t imagine sharing a machine and still having reasonable performance, really. But with only 2 users, it might be OK.
